Eminem is right us critics are a bunch of haters, being that I am not only a client but the hater president, he makes a fair point and frankly after my last review of his previous album I didn’t think I would be writing another one so soon but here we go. Thankfully Recovery isn’t a “sequel” so much as it is a growth project aimed in a different direction. The right direction. 
I’ll admit I was really really… ok I was extremely critical of him and his last album and my primary reason was that Eminem is not Mc Joe from down the block, this guy has diamond albums on his wall 3 of them, and he set many trends, lots of them, and he isn’t just some flake of a rapper who hides behind autotune. Eminem is one of those rappers who could go into a freestyle session in the hood with REAL MCs and walk out with the trophy and everybody’s respect so naturally I have higher expectations for him than somebody like ohh I don’t know my current blogging punching bag Waka Flocka… you know what that bit is getting kind of old I think I need to kick somebody else while they are down.
When I first pressed play I still didn’t like the songs but I instantly noticed something was different this time around Eminem was rhyming with the confidence that was lacking the last go round, and he even admitted as much, so on that front I have to actually give him props, because he was big enough to admit it. Now me and some of his fans aren’t on good terms so in a show of good faith I would like to say I didn’t totally hate this album I think it was ok. I know Eminem killed off Slim Shady and he is dead long and buried but that playfulness and wordplay aspect that was completely missing popped up here and there which filled my heart with Glee… (wait for it) Sue Sylvester.
Musically Eminem brought along a few new super friends who have never been on a Eminem project before, I am speaking of course of Mr Drake – Boi 1da, DJ Khalil one of the best that has ever done it, Denaun Porter, and some guy you may or may not of heard of with a few rocafella hits tucked under his belt – Just Blaze. With a all star line up as great as that you could have almost telegraphed it like a sitcom, not one I’m talking none of these guys brought their signature sound to the studio I know I know I’m scratching my head too. Now let me be clear here they did not make wack songs I have too much respect for them to criticize them like that, but they didn’t however bring the lightning and thunder that they have been accustomed to doing their whole careers. Matter of fact I had to literally look at the credits to figure out who made what and that made me kind of disappointed, but no matter you go to war with the army you have not the army you want… (wait for it) Donald Rumsfeld. Well how was the raps then, good ish Eminem was kind of rusty like the Tin-man in a flash flood the last album but he seems to have gotten things together this time around, and I’m actually glad to hear it. This album was a lot more focused and less filled with corny rhymes about female celebrities and has beens which is always a welcome sight. At a few points on this cd you could almost feel Eminem’s pain and relate to the things that he has gone through in his life in and out of the public spotlight and I respect that I really do. With that said there are still some really crappy songs on here like 25 to life that should have never been made but again that is just my point of view. You also get the impression that he hasn’t worked out all his women issues on 14 of the 17 songs but he admits he is still a work in progress and I’ll just leave it at that. There is some growth here which is surprising and welcome at the same time. I still don’t know how many more albums he needs to make before he feels he can finally hang up the mic but I’m not as mad at this one as I was at the other one… ohh before I forget for goodness sakes rappers stop singing no seriously.
